That in spite of my desires, thoughts and plans, God has a better one.  That when I pray He answers, even if it isn’t the way I think it should be.

That His plan began before my birth, and doesn’t end for me.  That if I just trust and follow He will reveal His plan in my life.

I’m thankful that I don’t have to come up with the plan.  I am sure I wouldn’t be good at it.

I’m thankful He has a plan for my husband and children too. That I can rest in that knowledge and trust them to His care.  What a load off my shoulders when I trust them to Him.

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord..

Psalm 139:13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.

Thank you Lord for your good plan!

Today I am thankful for my couch!  After our marathon day yesterday and serving in nursery at church this morning, I am really enjoying my couch right now 🙂  I may soon go and see if my bed is worthy of my praise too;-)

Tomorrow I am sure I will be thankful for something more worthy, but for now it’s just me and my red couch, well as soon as I kick Rebecca off the other end.  Hopefully the Giants will start to come back or my hubby will be keeping me up with his frustration.  Why yes, I think a nap is definitely another thing to be thankful for! 🙂

This week my husband has had the flu :-/  Now in the scheme of things the flu is not that big a deal.  Now the fact that he is male, means it’s more of a deal than if a woman was sick 😉  But it will pass and he will be better soon.

Today we spent the morning at a ladies breakfast at church, grabbed and early birthday lunch at Pei Wei (just the girls and I) and then headed to Miracle League.  From Miracle League we left for church again, the girls had activities they wanted to participate in and then we attended service.  So we left the house at 7:40, and arrived home at 8:30.  My husband stayed home all day recuperating. It made me think about how we take our health for granted sometimes.  We are a little tired, but we enjoyed every part of our day.  If had health issues this day where memories were made and fellowship was enjoyed wouldn’t have happened.

As I watched some little ones in wheelchairs, and using walkers at Miracle League,  I thanked God that they had the chance to play baseball today as if they were able bodied.  The challenges those parents face on a daily basis, I can only imagine.  The joy they bring me and the other fans, watching them smile, seeing them celebrate their runs, is priceless!  I am thankful that God blessed me with children who look at those beautiful kids and have a desire to help them play a game for an hour as if they were on the winning MLB team!

I am thankful that God has blessed me and my family with good health.  Non-life threatening food allergies, asthma, common colds, just thorns in the side, not real health issues.  I am thankful that we have the strength to go out and live life, and that He gives us that health so we can use our lives to bless others.

Matthew West said it so well, not sure I can add much to it 🙂  Today I am thankful for forgiveness.  The forgiveness of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; the forgiveness of family and friends when I fail.  Forgiveness is one of the most powerful tools we have in this life, it should be applied liberally 😉
“Forgiveness”

It’s the hardest thing to give away
And the last thing on your mind today
It always goes to those that don’t deserve

It’s the opposite of how you feel
When the pain they caused is just too real
It takes everything you have just to say the word…

Forgiveness
Forgiveness

It flies in the face of all your pride
It moves away the mad inside
It’s always anger’s own worst enemy
Even when the jury and the judge
Say you gotta right to hold a grudge
It’s the whisper in your ear saying ‘Set It Free’

Forgiveness, Forgiveness
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible

Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

It’ll clear the bitterness away
It can even set a prisoner free
There is no end to what it’s power can do
So, let it go and be amazed
By what you see through eyes of grace
The prisoner that it really frees is you

Forgiveness, Forgiveness
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

I want to finally set it free
So show me how to see what Your mercy sees
Help me now to give what You gave to me
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

If you prefer to just listen-

I think when God created us, He programmed into us a need for relationships.  We desire to belong, whether to a family, or a community.  We want to be loved and accepted most, after our physical needs are met.  Today I am thankful for friendships.

Whether near or far, old or new,  I have some amazing friends 🙂  Some I’ve never met in person but have grown to love online.  They have talked me through homeschooling, curriculum choices, health issues, and challenged my beliefs at times.

Some I used to be neighbors with, but now only “see” online.  Our hearts are knit together though distance keeps us apart.  I love Facebook for keeping up with those.

Some I’ve known since elementary school.  I have shared experiences with-teachers, other friends, dances, childhood milestones.

Some are new friends, we’ve only met in the last couple of years.  Yet they have become like family already.

Some have walked beside me through premarital days, early marriage, pregnancies, moves, more moves, and now teen years.

I love that in Christ I have some of my best friends.  Friends who share similar values, parent similarly, celebrate the same things as me.  I love how God gives us friends for different seasons of our life.  When we had two extra children living with us, God gave me a friend who was a foster mom.  Boy did we relate!  A friend who knew my challenges first hand and prayed for me.  Who I could call and who could call me for a listening ear and advice.

A friend with children the same ages as mine.  Those people you know are just from God at that time to see you through a circumstance and then become lifelong friends.

Friends who were pregnant with me.  Commiserating on sore feet, swollen ankles, but excited for the new lives God was giving us.  Understanding my needs better than I did some days.

I especially love the friends who are there for all the seasons of my life 🙂  Who’ve laughed with me, cried with me, held my hand and challenged me when I’ve need it.  Friends who love me in spite of my warts, and I have quite a few!  Who are excited for me when I have good news, who advise me when I am lost.  Who have witnessed me make mistakes but love me all the same.

And best of all, the friends whose families are also friends with mine. There is nothing better than having true fellowship with another family.  Not worrying about do the kids or husbands get along but getting together as a group and everyone just loving being with each other.

I am truly blessed to have some of the most wonderful friends ever!  I pray that all of you who read this have at least one friend who you think of when you read this and that God would even bring you more.  I think life is hard without true friends, and God wants us to do this thing called life together, with others to encourage and love on us, and be His arms here on earth.

Today I am thankful that we live in a country where we can decide who we want to represent us in government.  A republic, dedicated to liberty.  A place where I can go today and vote!

Yes, I will be voting!  Voting for a president who takes my freedoms seriously.  A candidate who feels similarly to me about morals, character, and ethics.  Not a perfect candidate but one who represents families, freedoms, the American dream.  Who sees women for the gift they are and wants to pass laws to protect them, not cause them long term pain.

I am thankful that many years ago when their religious beliefs were threatened, pioneers dared to dream of a place where they could worship freely.  I pray our country stays that way.  The irony of this is, today we can teach religious tolerance and about all other religions but Christianity.  This generation right now is the most unchurched generation in history.  Yet, we can only teach them about gods that had no basis in the founding of our country.  I think our Founding Fathers would be confused if they were able to walk in America today.  They would wonder how we have strayed so far from the guidelines they set up to protect all people’s rights, not just the rights of the 3%.

I am thankful that today there are people dedicated to standing on those principles and ideas.  Who are willing to risk ridicule and popular opinion to stand for the ideals that America was founded on.  Who don’t believe one person’s freedom should impede another’s.  Who recognize that there is absolute truth, and moral relativism is a slippery slope.  Who value life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I am thankful for our constitution and today I pray that our leaders who are elected will stand with that constitution.  Will not bend to pressure or political correctness, but reach out with love to those who disagree.  Will appoint others who believe that what was penned over 200 years ago is still true today. Will inspire that same pioneer spirit in our country now.

We are still strangers in a foreign land, this is not our home; but while we are here, we are obligated to love, respect and value all human life.  I am thankful that a vision was placed in the hearts of men, who dared to dream of a such a land.  I am thankful that today I can vote, in that land.  And I pray that others will take this opportunity seriously and stand for the principles our country was founded on.

Leader of my pack 🙂

There was a time before we were married that I wasn’t so sure he was the ONE!  He spoke of separate checking accts, a wife who worked to pay half of the bills, and no children-EVER!  Yes, I loved him, but I was not certain I could go along with that list.  I serve a big God, who is in the business of changing hearts, mine and his!  If you know us, you know we have four beautiful children now.  And I have not worked since they were born, at his request.

He’s the dad who, when our oldest started kindergarten, he almost didn’t make it through those first two months.  He’d call me after dropping her off everyday asking me to homeschool her.  He couldn’t handle her crying as he dropped her in her class.  I had to convince him that letting her be a kindergarten drop out would not lead to a good life for her!

He’s the husband who gives good gifts.  Well, once we got past the sporting good gifts 😉  We heard a message about how men give the type of gifts they like to receive and women give the gifts they like to receive. We took that to heart and I have not received a set of waterskis or golf clubs since!  I have received beautiful jewelry, a great laptop, gift cards to shop, books, and a plane ticket to visit my mom, to name a few.

He’s the type man who remembers special days.  Never once has he forgotten a birthday or anniversary.  He even remembers special dates from our dating days 🙂

He’s the type guy who kills bugs and rescues you from evil lizards and spiders in the house.  My man!

He’s the guy who stays late and makes sure everything is cleaned up before leaving an event.  Who mops and vacuums your kitchen after a party.  Who does dishes even at someone else’s house because he understands the work involved in hosting and that when the party ends the clean up is only beginning.

The man who won’t leave until tomorrow a task that he could do today.

He’s the man who cleans up the vomit when you are pregnant and your child has the stomach flu.  And even when you are not pregnant!

He’s the guy who would almost take a dr out for raising his voice and yelling at your toddler daughter because she did not want to let the dr look in her ears.  (I had to forbid him from going with me to the drs office and promise not to see that pediatrician after that!)

He’s the man who would give the shirt off his back for someone who was truly in need.  Whose heart goes out to every girl on a losing basketball team, so he buys them all t-shirts and irons their name and a logo on them, and then buys them all a basketball of their own.

He’s the type who can make you laugh, good hard belly laughs that leave you breathless and remembering all over again why you fell in love with him.

He’s the guy who sings and prays over his dying aunt, as he holds her hand.

He’s the guy who’ll wipe away a tear in a movie when the wife dies, or the children are left without parents.  (Don’t tell him I told you that!)

The guy who sold his beloved Jeep to buy and engagement ring 18 years ago.

The guy who held my hand as I delivered each of his babies.

The guy who prays over his children and still tucks them all in, no matter how big they are!

The guy who I would marry all over again, anytime, anywhere!

He’s the husband I dreamt about as a little girl now.  Not perfect but perfect for me 🙂

I am so thankful for the best friend, husband and father he is.  That God allows me to see a glimpse of Him through this man.  What real love looks like.  How a father loves his children.  How God loves us!  Thankful today and everyday for my husband, this one that God blessed me with for this journey of life.
